Jim Burdett- Director
Jim Burdett has actively managed Mind and Body Consultants Ltd since its incorporation in January 1998. Jim has been active in consumer affairs since 1997 in a variety of roles including: senior consumer advisor to Auckland District Health Board, advisor with the Mental Health Research and Development Strategy, the NZ Mental Health Outcomes Initiative (MH-SMART) and NZ Mental Health Commission Service User Reference Group. Jim’s current key interests include providing leadership to the Mind and Body team, the development of peer support services across the age spectrum and building linkages through the International Initiative for Mental Health Leadership. He has an M.A. in philosophy and has developed the philosophical foundation for the peer support service. Jim also has a Diploma in Professional Ethics, Teachers College Diploma and Trained Teachers Certificate.

Training Manager
Nicky Grant- Training Manager
As Training Manager, Nicky Grant has responsibility for the management of Mind and Body Learning and Development, development, delivery and evaluation of programmes, and the welfare of staff and students. Nicky has experience of all aspects of peer support work in her role as National Support Services Manager for the Mind and Body Peer Support Services. She has a Diploma of Teaching, a Bachelor of Education and is completing qualifications in adult education. Nicky was a primary school teacher and worked with children with special needs. She also spent three years working as an educator for the Family Planning Association Education Service. She is passionate about both supporting others to reach their full potential and the provision of quality peer support education.
Administration
Eileen Barker- Administrator
Eileen provides administrative support to the Training Manager, Course Delivery Team and Management Team of Mind and Body Learning and Development. She implements the quality management system which supports the delivery of high quality education to our students. Eileen has a B.Com. in Economics and her strengths include her enthusiastic positive attitude, intelligence, attention to detail and a working knowledge of MS Excel.
Facilitators
Our course delivery team includes
- experienced Mind and Body Consultants’ Peer Support Workers (many of whom have a teaching background) who have trained peer support workers in the last four years
- other adult educators with specialist knowledge who have an understanding of recovery-based mental health peer support
Staff selection criteria and professional development procedures are specified in our Quality Management System to ensure the high quality of our teaching staff.
